Ettiquettes of Seeking Permission to Enter and Meeting Another Muslim (third and fourth chapters in the The Book of Manners by Fu’ad Ibn ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Ash-Shulhoob – publisher: Darussalam) 

Permission to Enter

1.    Ayat and Hadith

2.    Greet first, then ask permission

3.    Stand to the right or left of the door

4.    Seeking permission to enter up to 3 times

5.    Answer with your name when asked who is it  

6.    When leaving a gathering ask permission



Meeting Another Muslim


7.    Recommended to shake one’s hand 
a.    Shaking hands after the fard prayer -- bidah  
b.    Shaking hand with non—Muharam (someone marriageable)  

8.    Standing up when someone arrives 

9.    Hugging and Kissing when meeting 

10.    Forbidden to bow or prostrate to a human or anything else
