Vowels (harakha)
In English we have 5 vowels a,e,I,o & u
In Arabic we have only 3
Unlike English as vowels are letters from the alphabets, in Arabic, we have distinct signs as vowels and they are:
Fatha
َ
أَ
It is written as a line on top of the letter, and it has the sound of (a) With the upper and lower jaws get apart.
Kasra
ِ
إِ
It is similar to the fatha, but it is written on the bottom of a letter, and it has the sound (e) with the lower jaws gets down.
Dhamma
ُ
أُ
It is like a small (waw) and has the sound of (O) With the lips entirely circled.
It is noticed that when we add vowel in Arabic it is different from English, we do not add them after a letter, but on top or below a letter;
Dhamma and Fatha will be at the top of the letter, and Kasra will be bellow the letter.
