Conversational Arabic: Taking a Taxi (16th November, 2013)

رُكُوبُ التَّاكْسِي
Taking a taxi
 
مَرْحَبَاً يَا آنِسَة ، هَلْ تَحْتَاجِيِنَ إِلَى سَيَّارَةِ أُجْرَة؟
Hello Miss, do you need a taxi?
Marhaban ya anesa, hal tahtajeena ela taxi?
 
نَعَمْ.
Yes.
Na'am.
 
هَلْ مَعَكِ أَيُّ أَمْتِعَة؟
Do you have any luggage?
Hal ma'ake ayyu amtea'a?
 
فَقَطْ هَاتَانِ الحَقِيبَتَانْ.
Just these two suitcases.
Fakat hatanel hakebatan.
 
حَسَنَاً سَأَضَعُهَا لَكِ فِي الخَلْفْ. إِلى أَيْنَ سَتَذْهَبِينْ؟
OK, I'll put them in the back for you. Where are you going?
Hasanan sa'dau'ha lake fel khalf ela ayna satathhabeen?
 
إِلى فُنْدُقْ مُوفِينْبِكْ.
To the Movenpick  Hotel.
Ela funduk Movenpick.
 
أَعْتَقِدُ أَنَّ هُنَاكَ اثْنَيْنِ فِي مَكَّة. إِلى أَيِّ وَاحِدٍ سَتَذْهَبِينْ؟
I think there are two in Mecca. Which one are you going to?
A'takedu anna hunaka ethnayn fe Mecca. Ela aye waheden satathhabeen?
 
 
إِلى الذِي فِي وَسْطِ البَلَدْ.
To the  downtown one.
Elal lathe fe wastel balad.
 
هَلْ هَذِهِ أَوَّلُ مَرَّةٍ تَأْتِينَ إِلى مّكَّة؟
Is this your first time in Mecca?
Hal hathehe awwalu marraten ta'teena ela mecca?
 
لَا. جِئْتُ الَى هُنَا مَرَّاتٍ عَدِيدَة. هَلْ تَعْرِفُ كَمْ سَيَسْتَغْرِق وَقْتَاً؟
No. I've been here many times.  Do you know  how long it'll take?
La. Je'tu ela huna marraten a'deeda. Hal ta'refu kam sayastaghreku menal wakt?
 
عَلَى الأَرْجَحْ نَحْوَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ دَقِيقَةً.
A'lal arjah nahwa khamsa a'shrat  dakekatan.
 
يَبْدُو أَنَّ حَرَكَةَ المُرُورِ سَيِّئَة.
  It looks like the traffic is  bad.
Yabdu anna harakatal murure sayye'a.
 
نَعَمْ ، قَدْ يَكُونُ هُنَاكَ حَادِثً أَمَامَنَا.
Yeah, there might be an accident  ahead.
Na'am, kad yakunu hunaka hadethun amamana.

The Manners of Going to the Bathroom (tenth chapter in the The Book of Manners by Fu’ad Ibn ‘Abdul-‘Azeez Ash-Shulhoob – publisher: Darussalam)  The section on Cleansing oneself after using the toilet and washing impurity off of clothing is taken from KIU notes on Purity.

1.    Disliked to take anything into the toilet that has the remembrance of Allah  
 
2.    Prohibition of  facing the Qiblah or your back towards it 

3.    Etiquettes and Duas for entering and exiting the toilet  

4.    Prohibition of using the right hand to clean oneself after using the toilet  
a.    Touching one’s private part and wudu
b.    Washing your child’s private part after they use the toilet and wudu

5.    Cleaning oneself with water or toilet paper

6.    Washing Urine off clothing for purity

7.    When using the toilet it is disliked for one to talk
